Day 1 - Coastal Race

As my previous report, the wind is probably the missing actor of this event.

Even the presence of S.A.S. Prince de Monaco Albert II accompanied by Bernard d’Alessandri (General Secretary & C.E.O. of the Yacht Club Monaco), arrived sportively on the R.I.B. (the whale watching Narval helms by David), and jump on board of SODEBO with also the guests Nicolas Hénard (President of F.F.V.) and José Cobos (municipal councillor for the sport in Nice) didn’t help to have more breeze.

On IDEC SPORT the guest was Bryan Habana the rugby player from South Africa.

But the start of the regatta has been on Fire thanks to the 3 big monster:

they had approached to the line from upwind around t-3, the 2 big, SODEBO and IDEC SPORT, had decided to match race parallel to the big long wall of the port, while ACTUAL was free, and has overtaken the others two passing in the small slot left between the rocks and the enemies. Doing so ACTUAL has the possibility to approach to the line from the pin on the starboard and downwind (all are port tack), so with the right of way, while SODEBO was slightly behind, IDEC SPORT is faster and crossed the line earlier the signal so it has been obliged to come back and restart.

At the first mark, ACTUAL was still leading, after SODEBO tacked widely and “waited” IDEC SPORT to arrive and fight together, very nice fair-play (sailing is so).

I lost them approaching to Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat because our press boat had been limited on time and colleagues needs, and we went back to the docks.

Now the evening is shocked by a big thunderstorm, luckily it arrived after the race. Stay tuned!
